'Picasso of Pastry' Opens Production Facility in France

3 November 2008 - Pierre Hermé, the French pastry chef called "the Picasso of Pastry", has opened a macaron and chocolate production facility in Wittenheim, Alsace.

The facility will employ 28 people and will supply Hermés shops in Paris and in Japan.

Approximately 3 million euro were invested in the 2,400 m2 Wittenheim site, whixh started production in September.

Being located in Alsac ewill enable the luxury pastry company to cater for future shops to be opened in European capitals over the next 3 years, said Charles Znaty, Groupe Pierre-Hermé Paris' CEO.

Pierre Hermé launched his own brand of products in 1996. The company employs 220 people in Paris and Japan and its annual turnover amounted to 15 million euro.
