Turnhout, 12 Dec, 2008 – Miko, the Eurolist by Euronext Brussels listed specialist in coffee service and plastic packaging, has announced the takeover of Café Sienna in Sheffield.
Café Sienna has already been providing a personalised coffee service to the hospitality sector for a number of decades in the north-east of England, in cities like Sheffield and Leeds.
The company with 8 employees has a turnover of GBP 800,000 (approx. EUR 1 million).
The takeover is being carried out through the subsidiary Miko Coffee North West, after which Miko will hold 90 % of the shares in the company. This takeover fits in well with a strategy for Northern England. Miko will combine all forces in the region allowing Miko Coffee North West to develop into a strong base for expansion.
This will be achieved by covering the area from 3 operational depots:
Firstly, Miko is established in the area around the densely populated cities of Manchester and Liverpool. As a contributing factor to this, the customer base of Chester Coffee was already taken over during the first half of the year.
Secondly, Miko’s takeover of Café Sienna will also help the company to become well established in major cities like Leeds, Sheffield and York.
Finally, Miko will manage the far north of England from Newcastle.
“These operations are meant to create a single major concern in the north, with a total turnover of almost GBP 3 million, which is an important step closer to becoming market leader in the region. With a gradual geographical redistribution of our customer base, we are also looking to achieve significant efficiency savings in the long term,” comments Frans van Tilborg, general manager of Miko and managing director of Miko Coffee UK.
