Sino-US Entrepreneurs Fair for Trade and Investment Held in Hawaii

6 April 2006 - Sino-US Entrepreneurs Fair for Trade and Investment and Briefings on Investment Environment in Hawaii was held on April 3, co-sponsored by China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products and US Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. Aim of the Fair was to increase the understanding of Chinese enterprises to the environment of trade and investment in Hawaii and to promote communication and cooperation among Chinese and US enterprises.

More than 200 entrepreneurs from both China and the US took part in the communication meeting. Ma Xiuhong, Vice Minister of Commerce of China, Shao Qiwei, Director of the National Tourism Administration, and Vice Governor of the State of Hawaii attended the Fair and gave speeches.

Ma Xiuhong introduced the development situation of Sino-US Trade and Economic Cooperation. She said that the bilateral trade amounted to US$211.6 billion in 2005, 86 times of that when Sino-US diplomatic relations established. The US was the second biggest trading partner of China, and on the other hand, China was the third biggest one for the US. Two-way investment developed rapidly, the US became one of the biggest sources of foreign investment of China, set up more than 50 thousand enterprises in China by now with actual investment of US$50 billion, sales of products of these enterprises exceeded US$75 billion. Meanwhile, China and the US launched outstanding and effective cooperation in fields of automobile, energy source, electronics, communication, commerce, daily used chemical products and service trade, which benefited essentially enterprises and people of the two countries. Chinese enterprises began to invest in the US, and the US became one of the important destinations for Chinese enterprises to go out to develop overseas business.

Ma Xiuhong said that in the coming 5 years, Chinese economy would maintain steady and faster development. Chinese government will take the expansion of domestic requirement as the important power to drive up economic growth. Commodity and service markets will keep enlarging. She hoped that Chinese and US entrepreneurs could seize new development opportunities to make greater achievements through enhancement of cooperation and maintain contributing to push forward Sino-US trade and economic relations with mutual benefit and win-win.

Shao Qiwei introduced the status of development and opening-up of Chinese tourism industry. He said that tourism became a fresh focus of consumption in China, and China would like to enhance cooperation with the US and the State of Hawaii in tourism.

Vice Governor of the State of Hawaii said that the State and China had a long-term trade and economic relations. Visit of Chinese government delegation and communication among Chinese and US entrepreneurs would be further strengthened and promote bilateral cooperation. The State would open up to launch trade and economic exchanges with China. The Vice Governor believed that there were many cooperation opportunities for enterprises of the two countries to cooperate in tourism, science and technology and agriculture.
