Lagos, June 18 - Unilever Nigeria expects its net profit for the second quarter to June 30, 2009 to rise 17 percent to 2.01 billion naira ($13.8 million) on the same period of last year, the company said on Thursday.
Turnover is seen climbing 9.3 percent to nearly 21 billion naira from 19.14 billion naira last year, Unilever said in a forecast to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
The conglomerate reported a 4.4 percent increase in net profit to 1.12 billion naira for its first quarter to March 31.
Unilever said in its interim financial report to the NSE that gross earnings during the period rose 8 percent to 10.42 billion naira from 9.64 billion naira last year.
The company, which makes food brands, personal care and household products, in March reported a 141 percent increase year-on-year in its 2008 net profit to 2.6 billion naira.
Its shares jumped 4.36 percent to 14.61 naira on the release of the first quarter report and the following term's forecast.
