August 26, 2009 - The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority's (AVA) monitoring and surveillance programme has detected excessive levels of methanol in two Chinese wine products manufactured by M/s Lam Hock Leong Trading Company.
The two implicated products found with excessive levels of methanol are “King Narcissus brand Ginseng Wine Tonic” and “Camel Brand Rice Wine”. The two products have been recalled from sale.
As a precautionary measure, AVA has also instructed the factory to suspend its production and recall all the Chinese wine products produced by the factory with immediate effect, pending AVA’s investigation. Retailers have also been instructed to remove all the Chinese wine products produced by M/s Lam Hock Leong Trading Company from sale.

Excessive intake of methanol may cause visual disturbances, nausea, abdominal and muscle pain, dizziness, seizures and coma.
Consumers who have purchased any of the seven wine products produced by the company should discard the products and not consume them.
