EU Sends Coke-Traficante Merger to Italy for Review

Brussels, April 20 - The European Commission said on Thursday it had referred plans by Coca-Cola Co. (KO.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling (HLB.AT: Quote, Profile, Research) of Greece to acquire Traficante of Italy to the Italian competition authority.

They had planned to buy Traficante for 35 million euros ($43.2 million), the companies said when the deal was announced in February.

Traficante markets mineral waters in southern Italy.

Italy had requested the opportunity to review the deal.
