The acquisition by Bauli marks the return of these two historic Italian brands of panettone to Italian ownership after more than a decade of ownership by Nestle. The acquisition makes Bauli the world’s leading producer of panettone, the classic Italian cake known as a seasonal holiday tradition.

Bauli products and its two brand acquisitions are available in the United States, most notable, panettone, which is available in supermarkets and specialty stores throughout the country. “The mystique of a dessert that is a tradition in Italy and our commitment to its authenticity and natural goodness has an appeal to the American market which is always exploring classic treats from other cultures,” notes Mr. Michele Bauli, spokesperson for the family. “If you want authentic Italian, you want Bauli. Today our processes respect the product’s original, century old features, with the added value of greater food safety controls,” he adds.

Bauli, founded over 80 years ago, is today a $560 million (US) company built on dedication to tradition and quality. The Bauli family has played a significant role in ensuring that consumers can enjoy authentic panettone. It takes more than 40 hours to produce a product using natural leavening, with incomparable lightness, fragrance and an unusually long shelf life. “Because of this, there is an international appreciation of our products which have a naturally soft and delicate texture for months because they are leavened without chemical additives,” notes Mr. Bauli.

August 1, 2009 marked the effective date of the transfer of ownership to Bauli. In Italy, the Bauli sales force will also assume the sales of Motta and Alemagna thus assuring the presence of these historic brands in the Italian market. “We will maintain the levels of quality and authenticity for which the brands Motta, Alemagna, and of course, Bauli, have been historically known.

Bauli’s product line includes its panettone and pandoro, a line of Doriano multi-grain and traditional crackers, croissants, specialty cakes as well as cookies under the Doria brand name.
