San Diego, California, Oct. 14, 2009 - Sadie Rose Baking Company, provider of artisan breads to top restaurants and hotels throughout Southern California, today announced the Grand Opening of its new artisan bakery.

With more than 23,000 square feet, the new facility represents a four-fold expansion for the firm.  Security Business Bank provided SBA funding of over $1.6 million for the project – no easy feat given the current lending environment.

With high-end restaurants competing for scarce patrons, the company’s strong growth demonstrates that chefs in the region’s top restaurants aren’t sacrificing quality even in tough times. “We love the consistency and quality of Sadie Rose breads” says Matt Gordon, Executive Chef of Urban Solace Restaurant in San Diego. “I never quite had a product I loved until I tried the breads from Sadie Rose, it is a product I am proud to incorporate into my menu.”

When you combine a passion for baking exceptional artisan bread with exceptional customer service, you have a recipe for success. According to Jennifer Curran, company co-owner, “Our customers and their patrons are more discerning than ever. Attention to detail in all aspects of the business sets us apart.”

Co-owner, Michael Lipman brought that same mind-set to planning and designing the new facility. Michael visited top artisan bakeries in New York, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle to study their design. He met with the best bakery equipment manufacturers from Europe. Ultimately, Michael chose stone hearth ovens and a state-of-the-art loading system from Italy. He also purchased an ingredient management system from Austria, a computer-controlled system that provides precise ingredient utilization.  The size and layout of the new bakery, along with this state-of-the-art equipment, will not only increase Sadie Rose’s capacity dramatically, but will enable it to take its bread quality and consistency to new heights. This new bakery puts Sadie Rose Baking Company at the forefront of artisan bakeries in the United States.

According to First Research, with U.S. annual sales of $1.6 billion, artisan bread is the fastest growing segment of the U.S. market for commercial baked breads and rolls. This growth is the result of consumers who have begun to turn away from less flavorful, mass-marketed breads toward the better taste and greater variety of artisan breads. As more consumers become familiar with artisan bread, growth is expected to continue to significantly outpace the category.
