Seoul, Oct 16 - South Korean retail giant Lotte Shopping said on Friday it would invest 733 billion won ($633 million) in its Hong Kong unit to help it expand in China and Hong Kong.

The announcement came after Lotte said earlier this month it was considering a purchase of Chinese supermarket operator Times.

A Lotte Shopping spokesman said the investment was aimed to boosting the Hong Kong unit's capital to grow its retail business in China, but no specifics have been decided regarding where it would spend the money.

"We are seeking to buy Times but no decision has been made."
