Nov 19 - Fruit and vegetable producer Dole Food Co Inc's third-quarter loss more than doubled, hurt by sales declines across all its segments.
Revenue in the quarter fell on the sale of the JP Fresh and Dole France businesses, but also due to unfavorable foreign exchange rates and reduced economic activity experienced by many European supermarkets, the company said in the statement.
For the third-quarter ended Oct. 10, the Westlake, California-based company's net loss widened to $54 million from of $21 million last year.
Net revenue fell 14 percent to 1.93 billion, with sales in of fresh fruit, its largest segment, down 17 percent. Sales in its fresh vegetables segment fell 8 percent, while packaged food sales fell 4 percent.
Shares of the company, which went public last month, closed at $12.50 Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange.
