1 June 2006 - Hundreds of HP sauce workers and their families, local people and supporters from across the country are expected to march through the Aston area of Birmingham this Saturday as the 'Save our Sauce' campaign takes to the streets.

The Transport and General Workers Union’s Deputy General Secretary Jack Dromey will be at the head of the march alongside local MPs, community leaders and campaigners who are all committed to save “iconic and quintessentially British” HP sauce from plans by new owner Heinz to shift production to Holland.

“Heinz gave promises to keep production of HP in Birmingham but those commitments are as thin as the sauce’s imitations,” said Mr. Dromey. “This march is not just about the sauce and the one hundred and twenty five workers whose jobs are at risk, it is about the local community, a prime British brand and keeping manufacturing jobs in the UK.”

The T&G and local campaigns have attracted huge positive responses. Politicians from all parties in the eponymous Houses of Parliament have offered their support and the campaign has captured national attention.
