6 September 2006 - Japanese food producer QP. Corporation has developed a modified plant sterol called Qsterol. The plant sterol is used to produce a cholesterol-fighting, low-calorie mayonnaise product, which is sold in Japan under the brand name Kewpie Defe.
Kenjiro Yasufuku of Q.P.’s fine chemical division has confirmed to FLEXNEWS that Q.P. is planning to sell the anti-cholesterol additive to food and beverage manufacturers outside of Japan. In order to do so, the firm has submitted patent applications in China, South Korea, the US, and other countries.
Yasufuku also informed FLEXNEWS that he expects to generate annual sales of some 1.8 billion yen with the product by 2009.
Q.P. produces and sells mayonnaise, dressings, egg products, cooking foodstuffs, baby foods & health foods and furthermore, sells jam, sweet corn, pasta-sauce, canned, bottled & frozen & chilled foodstuffs.
