EU: Commission Clears Acquisition of Pizza Hut by Yum

7 September 2006 - The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of Pizza Hut UK Limited (Pizza Hut) by Yum! Restaurant Holdings (Yum) of the UK, controlled by Yum Brands Inc. of the US.

The transaction concerns the informal restaurant market in the UK. Yum is active in this market through the management and operation of the Kentucky Fried Chicken chain of restaurants (either directly or through third party franchised outlets) and currently has a 50% interest in Pizza Hut UK.

Pizza Hut UK manages and operates the Pizza Hut chain of informal restaurants in the UK. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
