6 December 2006 - South Korean confectionery producer Orion Corporation has opened a plant in the southern province of Binh Duong, Vietnam, reports both nation's business media.
The total cost of the new plant, which took one year to build, is estimated at USD 40 million, add the media reports. It will produce pies and candy, including ‘Chocopie’, chewing gum, and other confectionery and snack products.
The plant is expected to produce 14,000 cans of products daily, generating an estimated value of USD 53 million annually.
The factory will become the main production base for Orion in Southeast Asia, and will sell half of its output in Vietnam and the rest on foreign markets, mainly in the region, the Middle East, and India, the Corporation’s chairman told the media.
FLEXNEWS recently reported that one of Orion’s competitors in Vietnam, Kinh Do Corporation, is also building a snack factory in the province of Binh Duong.
