19 December 2006 - PepsiCo President and CEO Indira Nooyi said that her company was working with Coca Cola, and in co-operation with the Indian government, to develop a new method for testing pesticide residues in beverages and other products.
Attending a business conference, Nooyi added that PepsiCo's products in India were absolutely safe and asserted that the company was ready to abide by any government standards.
The decision comes after the pesticide-in-cola controversy that hit the Indian cola industry this summer. At the time, FLEXNEWS reported that a ban was placed by the state of Kerala on Coca Cola and PepsiCo’s soft drinks. The ban was lifted in late September.
