UK: Illegal Dyes in Supreme Coriander, Hot and Mild Curry Powders

26 August 2005 - Three Supreme seasoning products have been withdrawn after they were found to contain the illegal dyes Sudan I and IV. The Agency has issued a food alert for information.

Product details
The affected products were packed by Lubna Food Ltd, which hasundertaken a product withdrawal of the affected items and issued point-of-sale notices.

The batch code of the brand affected is 031201and all have a 'best before' date of the end of December 2006:

  • 100g Coriander Powder
  • 400g Hot Curry Powder
  • 400g Mild Curry Powder
  • 100g Mild Curry Powder
  • 100g Hot Curry Powder

No other Supreme brands are known to be affected.

For Information:

Sudan I and IV are not permitted colours under the Colours in Food Regulations 1995. They are considered to be genotoxic carcinogens and their presence, at any level is not permitted in foodstuffs for any purpose.
