India's Economic Times said the deal was valued at about $125 million but Sterling declined to confirm the amount.

The statement, issued late on Friday, said the two firms had signed an agreement allowing Lavazza to buy a 100 percent stake in Sterling's Barista Coffee Co. Ltd. and Fresh and Honest Cafe Ltd.

The deal was expected to be completed over next four weeks, the statement said.
