Turnhout, 22 March 2007 – MPC-HORDIJK is the new name representing the Miko group's plastic packaging business in Germany. This was announced today by Miko, the Eurolist by Euronext Brussels listed specialist in coffee service and plastic packaging. This new company MPC-HORDIJK will further strengthen the position of Miko's plastic packaging division in Europe's German-speaking market.
Miko’s plastic packaging division, MPC-DG Plastics, has been operating in the German market since 2001. Up until recently it held a 51 % stake in MPC-GROTENHUIS. Miko recently acquired the remaining 49 % from Grotenhuis, and then resold 30 % of the shares to Hordijk, a Dutch company which has been particularly active in the German-speaking plastic packaging market for the last few years.
Hordijk, just like MPC-DG Plastics, specialises in plastic packaging for the food industry, and both companies are convinced of the huge growth potential in the German-speaking market. MPC-DG Plastics specialises in two main areas: high-quality large thermoform products, such as trays for ready-meals, and injection mould technology, including In-Mould Labelling. This is a technology which allows a multi-coloured printed plastic label to be integrated into the packaging during the injection mould process. Hordijk mainly focuses on PET products offering unique features which allow the production of crystal-clear containers, as well as guaranteeing that food products remain fresh for a longer period. All the above products have shown a sharp growth over the last few years.
As a result of reselling 30 % of the shares to Hordijk, a new company has been created which can offer customers a wide range of complementary packaging solutions. MPC-HORDIJK will therefore be able to focus on four important market segments:
1. ready-meal trays and injection moulded products, including In-Mould Labelling from the company MPC-DG Plastics
2. PET products from the company Hordijk
3. seal foil supplied by the Italian company Technopack
4. C-PET dishes, which can withstand very high temperatures and are manufactured by the Israeli company MCP Performance Plastic.
In order to give the sales activities a further boost, two additional sales staff will be recruited. Their job will be to go out and to sell the full product range in the northern and southern German-speaking areas of Europe.
