26 March 2007 - US chewing gum manufacturer Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co is considering taking legal action against Cadbury Schweppes for allegedly breaking British competition rules with its February 2007 UK launch of “Trident” chewing gum, reports Sunday Telegraph, citing unnamed senior sources at Wrigley.
Wrigley is reportedly worried by Cadbury’s prominent display of its Trident chewing gum in shops, claiming that Cadbury is using its influence on retailers.
On 13 March 2007, FLEXNEWS reported that Cadbury Schweppes was enjoying a share of 12% of the UK gum market, according to figures from AC Nielsen.
Cadbury Schweppes has not received any legal approach from Wrigley, nor does it expect to, a spokesman for Cadbury Schweppes told the newspaper. He added that there were no grounds for such an approach.
