3 April 2007 - Cadbury Schweppes' share of the UK gum market has grown. The candy firm now has a 15% share of the GBP 240 million market, reports 'the Times', citing the latest figures from AC Nielsen.
The market research company added that weekly sales were running 29%, or GBP 1.4 million, higher than a year ago.
The gum competes with market leader Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co., who, before the launch of Trident in February 2007, had a 98.5% market share.
Trident has gained an extra 3% share of the UK gum market despite last week’s bad news concerning its advertising campaign.
On 29 March, FLEXNEWS reported that Cadbury Schweppes was forced to stop its GBP 10 million British TV and cinema campaign for Trident, further to a ruling from the UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) stating that the adverts showed “offensive stereotypes and ridiculed black or Caribbean people and their culture”.
