12 July 2007 - According to reports in the British press, Diageo will start building the Roseisle on Speyside, Scotland distillery later this year with a view to completing it in 2009 and starting production of its first whisky in 2012.
The new distillery, in which Diageo will invest GBP 40 million, will mainly cater for the company’s overseas demand, from growing markets such as Brazil, Russia, India, China and Mexico.
The new plant is expected to create 25 jobs, add the reports.
Diageo announced it would build a new malt distillery in the north of Scotland in February.
The firm added that it would also expand its Cameronbridge grain distillery in Fife, already the largest in the UK. Bottling capacity at the company’s Shieldhall packaging plant in Glasgow would also be increased and warehousing capacity would be extended in central Scotland.
