Mexico City, July 19 - Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo, the maker of Corona beer, posted a 12.6 percent rise in second-quarter net profit, helped by a jump in export revenue.
The company, half-owned by Budweiser brewer Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., said on Thursday its net profit for the April-June reached 3.047 billion pesos ($282 million).
Overall net sales rose 25.5 percent to 19.7 billion pesos in the quarter, almost entirely due to an 84 percent rise in revenues from exports, the company said.
Domestic volume during the quarter increased by 2.9 percent, while export volume rose 6.5 percent.
Operating costs increased 29.7 percent, mostly because of higher spending on advertising and distribution in the United States, Modelo's main export market.
